Customer Spotlight: Mary Flynn

Customer Spotlight

Mary Flynn first found my fonts on Creative Market. She purchased Al Fresco and Samantha Upright Pro and used them in beautiful hand painted (no vinyl) signs on reclaimed wood, barn board and other wood. She lives in Barrie, Ontario, Canada (an hour north of Toronto) and is a retired elementary school teacher. She was a classroom and technology teacher and says she retired while she still had her sanity!

What started as a hobby because of her love of old wood, seven years ago, quickly developed into a home-based business in which she and her husband make custom signs. The hobby developed because she has always been interested in signs, especially old signage and fonts/lettering styles. That interest worked perfectly with her and her husband’s love of reclaimed wood and barn board. Mary’s husband makes all of the wood signs and is a perfectionist, which I learned is very important when using reclaimed wood and barn wood. Cleaning and disinfecting it is necessary so that the wood is clean, flat, sealed and ready to design on – who would have known! She started by creating simple signs for friends and family and has no formal training in sign making or lettering. Business took off from there!

Mary says she researched a lot of fonts before choosing some of mine because they work so well on her signs and create just the right look her customers have come to love and expect. She uses Samantha and Al Fresco in a significant amount of her sign work and even used them on a welcome sign in front of her house.

Her wood signs can be purchased through Facebook at Woodworks by Mary.
